The Crash and Burn

The launch, the take-off.

When we start off and hit the ground running, but just a little too much of a sprint.

The crash and burn happens on any number of time-frames.

It typically gets us when we are pretty good at what we do, from an early point.

When our progress is accelerated in the early days, maybe from a lucky break, maybe from beginners luck, or from previous skills that carry over, then we tend to extrapolate:

If I keep going at this rate, I should be at XYZ level in no time.”

The crash and burn is super common.

When we begin, we need to factor in “accumulation phases.” In weightlifting, this is when we do higher volume, repetition work in order to “adjust” in a way, to the types of weights we are doing, rather than simply putting the pedal to the metal.

The Crash and Burn has one nemesis. For us, this is an ally.

It’s called the Pause and Reflect. Typically, some external help can be very useful here:

“How am I going with my progress?”

“What issues do you see that might come up?”

“This seems to be coming very easily and I’m enjoying it, is there anything I’m missing?”
