Expression (Point of View)

In a world where we can be surrounded by inputs around the clock,

developing our own point of view can be difficult.

It’s a lot easier to recycle the view of the person next to us.

Our own narrative doesn’t seem to be fixed. It is influenced continually, changing with our environment, our experiences and the people around us. With an online world then, if we aren’t careful, this can be a continual cycle.

To express something different to the narrative of the culture immediately around us then, different to the status quo, requires both non-effort, and effort.

“Non-effort” is the allowing. The “space,” which can be literal, or metaphorical. It’s a distancing from the story we hear. When we allow space from the hype, when we give ourselves permission, we allow our awareness to settle on what is actually happening. The opportunity for clarity. Without space, we remain plugged in.

Then comes “Effort,” if we choose to express. When we notice or see something that may be different to the common narrative, there is emotional effort to bring it into the conversation. Without effort, we stay hidden.

Once it’s out on the table, we can be criticised, ignored or laughed at. The risk seems real.

On the other hand, once expressed, we have proven to ourselves that we already have the personal power we need to change the conversation and potentially create change or impact.
